Recycling

Newspapers: Share your newspapers or magazine with someone else. Donate them to local hospitals or other places where there are waiting rooms.

Recycled Products: Always purchase recycled paper products wherever possible. Not only that you are helping save trees, you are also helping to promote a greener economy.

Shopping Bag Recycling: Plastic shopping bags are perfect to use to line most small garbage cans. When full, they can tie off and be placed into the proper receptacle. Most stores are happy to recycle bags that you accumulate. Instead of tossing your excess bags, be sure to take them back to your local store.

Sideline Your Fax: Most faxes can be imported into your computer as a .pdf file. Most fax machines can be used as scanners thereby eliminating the need to mail or fax signed agreements. Most agreements are fine using electronic signatures. Faxes are truly obsolete and not very hard to get by without. Stop buying toner and special paper when options for unplugging and disconnecting are so many.

Copy Proofs: Can't adquately proof a letter without printing it? Learn how to use your speller and grammar check in your word processor program to insure it comes out professional. A thesaurus can come in very handy when searching out other meanings for descriptive terms. There are even "spin programs" for sale that can reword your paper for you. Don't be afraid to enlarge the words on your screen as you learn to read and adjust your verbage without the need to print.

Make Your Own Notepads: Save all your single sided misprints in a stack. When you've accumulated 15 - 20 sheets, stack and cut them into quarters. Count out 10 - 15 sheets and staple together with the blank side up for use as a note pad, to-do or shopping list.

Recycled Paper: Look for 80 - 100 percent recycled content when purchasing paper. Due to the processing, it comes out just as white and smooth as virgin paper. You'll be reducing demand on trees and when you recycle it again, you'll be benefiting the environment.

Set The Example: Motivate your team to store and view documents in PDF form on thelr laptops or mobile devices instead of needlessly wasting paper products which need to be later filed or disposed of.

Direct Deposit: These days, direct deposit of workers wages allow for the elimination of the need for physical paychecks. Check stubs can be converted to PDF and e-mailed for inspection at a later date. When seeking employment, be sure your prospective employer is up to snuff on modern banking and technology.

Printer Settings: Set the printer default on your personal and shared office printers to automatically print both sides of the paper. In cases where you need printed copies, this will cut your paper needs by half.

Recycle Policy: Instead of offering garbage cans for each office worker, offer them two trays for their desk. One tray for sensitive documents in need of shredding and one for recylable documents. Send a courier around twice each day to collect and process any accumulated paper.
